AUDIENCE: This workshop is designed for teachers, therapists, behavior analysts and others whose role is to design and implement methods to increase the verbal behavior of children with autism and related disorders in home, school or center-based programs.
PREREQUISITES: Participants should have knowledge of B.F. Skinner’s Analysis of Verbal Behavior and make use of the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (Sundberg, 2007) as an assessment and curriculum guide.
participants will be allowed an option to sign up for a 30 minute 1:1 with a BCBAs to go over questions or concerns related to the training.
DESCRIPTION: This workshop will review Jack Michael’s behavioral analysis of the role of motivation and how it can be applied to condition neutral items as reinforcers, increase the variety of mands and increase social pragmatic skills in children with autism. Participants will be given information about teaching procedures to increase mands for missing items/actions, mands for information, increasing eye contact and making requests to peers (peer manding) will all be discussed. The workshop will provide video illustrations as well as opportunities for discussion and questions and answers. Following the workshop,
